The Children's Garden at Dusk

The Children's Garden at dusk Posted by Hello

In front of the House-that-holds-the-Wall
there is a Garden
that returns the gift of summer
and they have planted it together,
have watched it grow towards the street,
a public invitation to their petalled hopes and dreams,
their contribution to a notion of community.
And in the twilight dusk
of all their gatherings up,
when they are gently bundled home to bed,
one question rings across the fleeting august edge,
across the butterflies and shifting shadows of their sunsplit eyes.
How to safely bring the outside in?
How to perforate the walls of all exclusions?
How to proudly pour their rich young minds
through jars of paint and other sticky things
until the Wall becomes a story,
a house-inside-a-house,
a passage way
that paints itself in nothingwithoutjoy
and bids You welcome
to their unfolding journey.
